Curative conservation training for MCC staff |
Regular training is imparted to the staff of Manuscript Conservation Centres (MCC) to establish basic minimum standards for conservation in each partner centre and also to keep the personnel updated with the latest in this field.
To begin with, the staff of 20 MCC-s underwent 45-day curative conservation training at National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC), Lucknow, followed by internship at different manuscript repositories.
In the next month the Mission is organising curative conservation training for the remaining 13 MCC-s and they too will be awarded 45-days internships at centres like NRLC, Nainital and Bhubaneswar. Besides the MCC staff, the participants will include representatives from private collections, libraries, institutions, as well as members from the reserve pool of conservators created by the Mission.

Workshops on Rare Support Materials
The support materials on which manuscripts are written vary in different regions across the country. Orissa is known for its palm leaf manuscripts; similarly birch bark manuscripts were common in Kashmir. Therefore, the maintenance and care of manuscripts also varies with different support materials.
The Mission is organising seminar-cum-workshops on rare support materials. These sessions cover a wide range of issues regarding the support materials, such as, the process and technology involved in their preparation as well as conservation. The participants include personnel from repositories, MCC-s, scholars and private owners.

The first of the series of workshops dealt with Parchment and Ivory . It was organised at Salarjung Museum, Hyderabad in October 2006.
