The Mission not only encourages documentation of manuscript collections all over the country but also plans to publish them. We have a programme of publishing descriptive catalogues of all the collections of theManuscript Resource Centres working with the Mission.
At present, the Mission has published a catalogue of the exhibition of Indian manuscripts at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany. The catalogue covers several aspects of Indian manuscripts. It is divided into 6 sections; ‘From Clay to Copper' giving us an idea of the variety of materials on which texts are found; ‘The Making of a Manuscript' with information on styluses and inkpots; ‘Fields of Learning' which provides an overview of the different areas which manuscripts deal in; ‘Veneration, Submission, Worship' shows us the importance of the word which is considered sacred; the fifth section, ‘Word and Image' provides us a glimpse of illustrated manuscripts in the country; lastly, ‘Royal Commands and Plain Records' is an indicator of the fact that manuscripts were an integral part of lives of everyone from the King to the common man.
