The Issue
The invaluable manuscripts of India containing our rich knowledge resources are scattered in known and unknown collections across the country. The National Catalogue of Manuscripts is the first concerted effort to document information
on these manuscripts is the most significant contribution of the Mission, for it garners information on the manuscripts scattered all over India in public and private collections and would make them available on a public platform.
The Strategy
The Mission has a three-fold strategy in compiling this massive information. These are:
The Outcome
It is expected that the three-fold approach outlined above will cumulatively generate nation-wide information on the manuscripts both in the organized (institutional) and unorganized (private) sectors. Integration of this data will lead to the creation of a National Catalogue
of Manuscripts, a process that we anticipate will continue through the remaining years of the Mission .
